Hemis National Park : Jammu and Kashmir

This monastery was founded in 1672 AD by King Segen Nampar Gyalwa. Hamis village is 40 km from Leh town in Ladakh. This village is located in the center of the Himalayan Mountains. Hemis festival is celebrated in the village every year in the month of July, where Chham dance, Devil dance and various exhibitions are organized. Hemi is the one of the Best hill stations in India among tourist places.

The festival is held for the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava, which was first hosted by the Lama chief. Hemis National Park, which is said to be home to snow leopards, is closest to here. If you want to roam well in Hemis national park area, then you have to stay here for five days.


How To Reach:

By Road: Regular bus services are available from Srinagar, Jammu, Leh etc. Also, Cab and Taxi are available on this route.

Best Time To Visit: 

If you want to enjoy the icy climate then you go to Hemis in the winter season. For who doesn't like very cold then the summer season is best for you. Monsoon is also good but from April-June is the ideal time to go for Hemis trip. 

A place To Visit In Hemis:

Hemis High Altitude Wildlife: Under south Asia, Hemis High Altitude is well known to be the largest park. From the sea level, It's height is from 3,300m to 6,000m. Here you can see Snow Leopards which is now rarely available in the world. Also, it is home of ibex, Shapu, bharal etc. and 73 types of birds. Indus River bounds it. If you are a trekking lover, then visit this place from mid-June to mid-October. In late winter, this time you can see snow leopards. This is the most popular tourist places. The nearest city of this park is Leh. 

 Hemis Monastery: It is situated 45km from south Leh. Hemis Monastery is known to be a Buddhist Monastery. Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal builds this Monastery. Hemis Monastery surrounded by green hills, banks of river Indus and spectacular. It is one of the wealthiest monasteries in India. 

Gotsang Gompa: From Hemis Gompa, it is a 45-minute walk away. Here one problem is that you can't reach Gotsang Gompa by car. If you want to stay a Buddhist Centre then it is one of the centre where you can get it for night stay. Monks are not fluently talk in English but for room booking and showing room for the customers, they do a great job.


Stakna Gompa: The meaning of Stakna Gompa is 'Tiger Nose'. The structure of Stakna Gompa is not good as like other monasteries around the area, but the views of Hemis from here is just impressive. 

Shang Gompa: It is the symbol of patience, calm, gravity and expense. Between Leh and Ladakh, Shang Gompa is the midst of snow-peaked mountain. It is famous for the painting which are very colourful.

Shopping in Hemis: Hemis Museum Shop is one of the major attraction spot where you can purchase handmade paintings, wooden statues, postcards and many more. Not only this place but also surround of that particular shop you see many small shops, they also showing you extra-ordinary things. 


Famous Food In Hemis: 

here we share some renowned food of Hemis are- Skieu which is made with veggies mutton and flour, Khambir that's a local bread, Pava made with sattu, Thukpa which is a thick soup with vegetables, sandwiches with apricot jam. These are the famous food you must try.
