  • By Bus: You can hire a cab or board on a bus to reach Halebid from Bangalore. Both private and state-owned buses run between these two cities. Frequent buses are also available to and from Hassan. It takes almost 5 hours to reach Halebid from Bangalore by car whereas the bus journey is almost seven and a half hours. Majestic bus stand, JP circle, Malleswaram, etc. are some of the bus stands of Bengaluru to name from where you can ride buses to Hassan.

  • By Train: Hassan is the nearest railway station of Halebid. This station is very well connected with other popular railway destinations in India. You can book your tickets for Mysore and Mangalore stations to reach Halebid. Plenty of taxis and cabs are available outside these stations to help you reach your destination. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation or KSRTC runs regular buses that are considered as the cheapest option.

  • By Air: Mysore Airport is the nearest airport to Halebid. Regular flights from all the major airports of India are available at this airport. Best Time To Visit:

To enjoy the true essence of this old city, it is better to plan your trip between October and March. The weather during these months remains pleasant. The temperature hovers around 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. Hoysala Mahotsava, the gorgeous dance festival held in March attracts a lot of tourists. Shivaratri and Diwali are also celebrated with great grandeur in this city. Plan your trip accordingly to experience the festive mode of Halebid.
The weather of Halebid in summer months is extremely hot and humid whereas, in the rainy season, it experiences heavy rainfall. For this reason, April to September is not the ideal time to explore the ancient beauty of this city.

 What To See :

  • Hoysaleshwara Temple: Built back in 1121 A.D, this temple of Lord Shiva is entitled as one of the World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Designed in Hoysala styled architecture, Hoysaleshwara Temple is one of the best places in Karnataka as well as the major attraction of Halebid. Amazing carvings and architectural designs on the exterior walls of the temple mesmerized the visitors. The temple consists of two shrines. Built with soapstone, the temple stands on a star-shaped platform. It takes a few minutes to reach this historical point from Halebid bus stand. Visit between 6a.m and 6p.m.

  • Belur: This twin part of Halebid was the capital of the majestic Hoysala Empire. Set almost 16 km away from Halebid, on the bank of river Yagachi, Belur is the home of some of the finest architectures of ancient times. Chennakeshava Temple and temple of Kappe Chennigaray are two most attractive temples for hosting intricate stone works on walls.  Chennakeshava is the incarnation of Lord Bishnu. It is said that it took 103 years to complete the finest carvings on the exterior part. All the 48 pillars of this temple depict episodes of Ramayan, Mahabharat, and Upanishad. Darpana Sundari or the lady with a mirror reflecting the exquisite genius engineering of the age is the chief attraction of this temple.

  • Archaeological museum: Facing the famous Hoysaleshwara Temple, this museum exhibits famous sculptures and inscriptions found in Halebid. More than 1500 sculptures having significant historical background are displayed inside the closed gallery and open-air museum. Dancing Shiva, Nataraja, Govardhanagiridhari Krishna, Veena Saraswati, dancing Ganesha, a bronze idol of Tirthankara are some of the most famous sculptures to name.

  • Basadi Halli: Basadi Halli is another major attraction of Halebid having three Jain temples namely Parshwanatha Swamy Temple, Adinatha Swamy Temple, and Shantinatha Swamy Temple. 14 feet long statue of Parshwanatha Swamy is built with black stone. The seven-headed Serpent on the head of this statue is believed to be The Protector of the figure. Kedareshwar Temple, Belavadi, Shravanabelagola, etc. are some of the other famous places to visit in Karnataka.
